 The online gambling industry, and 888, an online gambling company founded in 1997 by two brothers, lost its Co-Founder, Aharon Shaked, 58, on Saturday after a difficult struggle with his health.
Shaked was a smart man whose first job was in the practice of dentistry in his home land of Israel. He and his brother together founded 888 holdings and struck a fortune in the online gambling industry.
During a Monte Carlo dentistry conference in the 1990s, the brothers took notice of the thriving casino industry within the city. Aharon and Avi together promised that on return to Israel, they would establish an online casino seeing as how the market for this kind of entertainment was strong and could be widespread once brought to the internet.
Both brothers were not familiar with the industry, but were anxious to succeed so they began visiting a casino near their home land, in Eliat. There, they learned the tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in the casino business. From there, they made an empire for themselves.
Aharon Shaked was a good man who lived a low profile life and donated a lot of his money to charities. Once, a British newspaper asked Shaked after the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange, how this would affect his life. The humble Aharon replied that with his new found fortune, he would use the profits to help the needy children of Israel rather than live a lifestyle of luxury.
The online gambling industry is sad to see Aharon gone, but his legacy will live on with his online gambling company he shared with his brother.
