New online poker site BetClic has announced one of the most exciting sports celebrity sponsorship deals in recent history. The France based site is reported to have signed on San Antonia Spurs point guard Tony Parker.
Parker was born in Belgium, but was raised in France before joining the NBA making his success a source of pride for many French citizens. His high profile relationship with Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria has enabled him to become an almost weekly fixture in tabloids across the globe and he has been photographed joining in on several high profile poker events over the years including the World Series of Poker. In many ways it's only natural that the rising casino would see him as very valuable potential asset to the company.
When asked about the deal, Parker is said to have released the following statement, "A great adventure begins. BetClic is a leading company with big ambitions and I am very happy to contribute to its development in the sport during the coming years."
BetClic's founder, Nicolas Beraud also appeared to be very enthusiastic about the new deal. He said in a recent statement, "We are delighted to welcome Tony Parker in the team BetClic. He is a great ambassador for the brand. Tony represents the strong values of excellence and ethics in sports that we share. This new partnership reflects our commitment to continue our development in the sport by adding great champions to our team."
BetClic was founded only five years ago but has gained a pretty strong following in parts of Europe. Parker will become one of the only sports star celebrities to ever be sponsored by an internet poker site and is the only current athlete to ever be given the honor. Prior to signing Parker, BetClic's biggest signing had been with former PokerStars pro, Isabelle Mercier. Now that the site has opened up the online poker community to sponsoring current sports celebrities it should be interesting to see if any other poker sites follow suit.
Congratulations Parker!
