Child Support Owing Parents Could Lose Their Big Casino Winnings in Indiana

Big winners may feel like big losers if they don’t pay their child support payments. The Indiana State Senate Judiciary Committee recently advanced a bill that would withhold all major winnings from parents who owe back child support. This means that depending on how much they owe one could end up seeing little to none of their winnings at the end of the day.
The system would work by having all the players names crosschecked with an electronic database prior to getting their payoff. Major winnings would pretty much be the same as what the state requires to be reported on ones taxes so it would basically be like an additional step to go along with the process of getting your W-2G.
As you can imagine Casino operators are not happy with the idea since it would mean some additional work on their parts and would make for some big time delays on the casino floor.
Supporters argue that it’s worth any minor inconvenience to the casinos to help make sure that single parents are collecting some form of child support. It is after all a legal form of income so it's only fair that they pay the piper. If an absentee parent can afford to go to a casino then they can probably afford to forfeit the winnings after all.
