The Poker Players Alliance will be hosting an Ante Up for Africa charity poker tournament at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, D.C. on April 14th. Co-chairing the charity poker tournament will be female poker professional Annie Duke and poker supporting lawmakers Senator Robert Menendez and Congressman Jim McDermott.
A number of top pros are planning to be in attendance. Just a few of the big names include Andy Bloch, Howard Lederer, Greg Raymer and Jim McManus.
The price tag for the PPA charity tournament is set at $500 and corporate sponsorships are available for $5,000 for half a table and $10,000 for a full table. Up for grabs will be a seat at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event a prize valued at $10,000 and a two-day WSOP Academy poker training experience valued at more than $1,000.
Registration for the Ante Up for Africa charity poker tournament is available on the PPA's website but space is limited so you need to get in early if you want to be guaranteed a spot. Only 140 people will be permitted to join in on the action and seats will be given on a strictly first come first serve basis.
Ante Up For Africa is a non-profit organization founded by Don Cheadle, Annie Duke and Norman Epstein. It is dedicated to raising money and awareness for Africans in need through charity poker tournaments.
Commenting on the support the PPA has afforded to such worthy causes in the past, Ken Bacon, President of Refugees International recently said:
“We are grateful to Ante Up For Africa for shining a spotlight on the ongoing crisis in Darfur and generating such significant support for the people who have been forced from their homes by this conflict. An event like this makes it possible for Refugees International to continue to demand action from the world’s leaders to provide basic assistance and protection to refugees in Sudan and around the world.”
