Hawaii May Approve a Casino for Their State

altThe beautiful state of Hawaii is known for its exotic landscapes and crystal clear beaches. The Aloha State is one of the top travel destinations for vacationers and the reason is obvious- the atmosphere is unbelievable and the people are welcoming, but there may be another reason sometime in the future. The cash strapped state is looking for ways to help their slumped economy in this time of financial instability and may be looking to casino gambling to increase the state's revenue.

Calvin Say, a House Speaker for the state, is trying to convince other lawmakers that his proposal will work. He is suggesting that a single casino be legalized and opened, which would bring in millions of extra dollars for the state. This would help Hawaii's budget dramatically through taxing the revenue the casino makes from gambling winnings.

"It is just another issue that we should consider because if there is a license that is sold, we pick up so many millions of dollars," said Say. "It is just an option on the budget side."

In addition to helping increase revenue for the state, a new casino would also help in other ways by providing relief for the dropping unemployment rate. Should a casino come to Hawaii, an estimated 4,000 jobs would be created as a direct result. These two incentives of new jobs and the possibility of millions in extra revenue may prove to be too good for law makers to pass up. The idea of an exclusive Hawaiian casino would also attract a broader range of tourists.

Even thought the issue of bringing a casino to the state may sound appealing, there will no doubt be plenty of debate of the subject among lawmakers when it comes to the issue of gambling. It is not known whether or not Hawaii's residents would approve of the idea or if the proposal would be turned down.

Throughout the United States the issues of casinos has been a subject of much debate. Even though lawmakers continue to disagree with the moral issues behind the gambling, they are being forced to look again at the option and the idea of regulating and legalizing casinos has been looking increasingly appealing. The legalization and regulation of gambling in casinos and online could potentially give the US billions of extra dollars in revenue each year and that may prove to be too good to turn down.

As other countries look to gambling as a life preserver for their economic woes, it looks like the US is finally starting to follow suit. US states have begun to legalize gambling and gambling states are looking for ways to expand. Whatever happens, the idea of a casino in Hawaii sounds pretty good and will definitely be something to look forward to should lawmakers agree to move forward with it.
