The state of Iowa continues to debate creating Online Gambling. Lawmakers are working on a piece of legislation that could make it the state the first in the country to allow in-state Internet wagering. It is estimated that there are currently about 50,000 Iowans already wagering online despite the fact that they must do so illegally. Law makers are saying that by legalizing the activity and regulating they will be able to not only create a safer playing environment for everyone but will also be able to turn a tidy profit for the state in the process. "Here's an opportunity for $11.5 million a year for an activity that's already going on in the state where Iowans have exposed themselves to significant risks," said Republican State Representative Doug Struyk. If everything goes according to plan, players will be able to access their online accounts from any computer in Iowa. All the money would be flowing through the casinos and would stay in the state. Depositing money would be a little different then what most players are use to. "You actually have to go to one of the 17 casinos in Iowa. You have to make a cash or debit card deposit," said Struyk. He then goes on to explain that places like Rhythm City Casino or Isle of Capri would allow players to deposit money into their accounts anywhere in the range of $50 to $500. Withdrawals would also have to be handled similarly in person. The bill is still in its drafting stage right now but if it continues to move forward the system could be up and running as early as next year.
