For all you adrenalin junkies out there looking for that next fix, you can stop searching because the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has got the ultimate adrenalin pumping, free fall experience in the makings just for you! That's right for all of you who have thought about jumping off the roof of a 108 story building for any reason can now do just that, but without the nasty consequences.
The new "Sky Jump" will allow thrill seekers to hurdle themselves off the top of the Stratosphere and fall 855 feet at speeds of up to 40mph. Safety cables designed to break the fall keep jumpers from crashing into the ground below just in time to provide a safe landing but not before giving them the fall of a lifetime.
The new addition to the Stratosphere's list of attractions which include the Big Shot, X-scream and insanity, is set to open sometime in April and is expected to cost $100 per heart pounding leap off the top of the building. The three rides currently providing its goers with the thrills they seek, cost a mere $30 for an all day pass, but the unique Sky Jump experience will be worth the extra money as the attraction will set a new record for the highest controlled freefall experience in the world.
Frank Riolo, the chief executive of the owner of the Stratosphere, American Casino and Entertainment Properties LLC., has confirmed this record saying, "This will not only be North America's only skyjump, but, also the highest skyjump in the world."
Even though a person can now get that fear inducing thrill they've been looking for, it's not as simple as just paying $100 and jumping to your heart's content. Before jumpers can take that leap of faith, they must first watch a safety video before the adventure begins. Next they will be strapped into a special jumpsuit customized especially for the skyjump before being connected to a series of wires designed to keep the fall on a controlled course. Just moments before hitting the ground, these wires will slow the jumper down to a safe landing speed. The entire experience will take about 30 minutes per person.
"While the entire experience- from preparation to landing- takes just 30 minutes, the thrill will last a lifetime," Riolo promised. "Stratosphere has made a commitment to reinvesting in our property at all levels and this will be an outstanding addition for everyone-whether you're making a leap yourself or watching those daring enough to do it."
