The Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation (LSPF) received momentous news recently. It was officially recognized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Lithuania as a sports federation on Saturday March 20th. This means that the group will now be allowed to organize noncommercial poker tournaments outside of casinos to boost poker popularity. Lithuania is the hometown of professional poker player, Tony G.
"This is extremely important step in our work," said President of the Lithuanian Sports Federation Andrius Tapinas. "We are receiving congratulations from many of our colleagues abroad and I know that we are breaking thick ice with our progress for similar international initiatives."
Next week, the group will present their official poker tournament schedule to the media. This event will undoubtedly generate a lot of attention for the poker community because of the celebrity status of LSPF's president Andrius Tapinas, who is widely known as the presenter of the of the most popular Lithuanian business TV show. The celebrity has gained some publicity for poker in the past. His cashes in WSOP and Unibet Open tournaments were covered on the front pages of biggest Lithuanian daily.
The Inaugural LSPF tournament will take place April 24- 26 in Vilnius. President Tapinas expects it to be the biggest poker tournament in any Baltic country.
