The District Attorney of Organized Crime & Rackets Bureau in Queens New York took down an illegal sport betting ring worth an estimated $8 million earlier this week. Four men were arrested in connection to the crime, Bonanno soldier Michael Palmaccio is accused of being the ring's bookmaker, Cono Natale is accused of being the "runner" and recruiter, and Gerry Gullotti and Ronald Salerno are said to have been the debt collectors. If convicted, each of the criminals could expect to serve 4-15 years behind bars.
"Illegal gambling is not a victimless crime," said Queens District attorney Richard A. Brown. "Those who participate in these criminal operations often use threats, intimidation and even physical force to collect debts and oftentimes charge usurious interest rates on outstanding debts. Today's indictments will send a clear signal that when it comes to illegal gambling in Queens County, all bets are off."
The men, who are said to have connections to the Mob, have all been released on bail for the time being. There trail is expected to take place on May 4th.
