Anthony Carleo, aka the Bellagio Biker Bandit, plead guilty of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon on Tuesday. He confessed to driving his motorcycle into the casino and taking $1.5 million in gambling chips from the Bellagio. He called his action "very foolish" and said that he was very sorry for what he had done.
Carleo, who is the son of Las Vegas Municipal Judge George Assad, now faces anywhere between 3 to 36 years in prison in the Bellagio case and another 3 to 36 years for robbing the Suncoast of $18,000. As part of his plea agreement, prosecutors will drop eight felony charges against Carleo in the two cases, including three robbery counts. Assistant District Attorney Chris Owens also said that his office will not pursue any other charges associated with the two cases, including potential drug and weapons charges. Also likely to help with his sentencing is the fact that no one was hurt in either heist. The fact that the case drew international headlines however will make it very difficult for a judge to go very light on his sentencing.
Both Defense attorney Bill Terry and Assad declined comment.
