Atlantic City is still trying to recover from the recent recession and many casinos in the area are coming up with interesting ways to attract new customers. While some may be cashing in on trends using bold advertising the Showboat Casino Hotel is turning to man's best friend to help increase revenue. The Showboat will now be offering doggy friendly packages to their customers with nine rooms equipped with doggie treats, food and water bowls, and a mat for the pets to sleep on.
"Clearly, Atlantic City casinos have decided that they will do anything possible to entice gamblers," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "Other promotions have not worked, so the Showboat is experiencing with the idea that gamblers will enjoy the luxury of being allowed to bring their dogs with them on vacation."
Of course the Showboat has laid at several rules for gamblers who decide to take their pet with them to the casino. The animals will only be allowed in the rooms, and in a special area outside the room that has been set up for potty breaks. Only two dogs can be in a room at a time and all pets must be under 50 pounds. Dogs are not allowed on the casino floor, in the shops, or at the bar unless they are assistance animals. While these rules may seem a little strict to some people, the Showboat will be one of a very small list of casinos in the US to allow pets to board at their facility.
It's unclear whether or not the change will pay off but anyone who has seen the benefits of animal companionship will tell you there is definitely a market out there.
As always, stay tuned to Casinofan for more news and updates.
