Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG has announced that as of Friday it will no longer accept wagers from Canadian players on its downloadable online casino. "We regret to inform you that, due to the introduction of new regulations, operations of the download casino will cease as of September 23, 2010," reads a mass e-mail sent to Bwin.com players based in Canada earlier this week.
The e-mail did not go into details about the new regulations but many online gambling sites in Canada have started sending out similar e-mails notifying their members that Canadian players will no longer be allowed to download their software and use it to play at their online casino. Strangely enough, all of the casinos will continue to offer the instant play versions of their sites, leading some to suspect that the problem may lie with casino software developer Boss Media.
Since none of the operators have provided specific information about the ‘new regulations' it's hard to pin down what is causing casinos to take their software off the market.
Casino Club, which also happens to use Boss Media software, told their users, "due to the new regulations of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Loto-Québec and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, online gaming products in Canada are prohibited. Unfortunately we are required to add Canada to our list of excluded countries. Players from Canada will no longer be permitted to play at Casino Club starting September 24th, 2010."
The good news is that the flash version available in many casinos will still be available for Canadian players including Bwin which offers over 30 games in the instant play version. One of the most enjoyable Flash casinos on the web is Club World Casino.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
