Cheaters Face Jail Time After Trying to Fix a Poker Tournament in a Florida Casino

altTwo men caught cheating during a poker tournament in Hallandale Beach, Florida have been sentenced to jail time. While many casinos simply take a cheater's winnings and ban them permanently from the casino, the Gulfstream Park Casino made an example of the two men by having them arrested. The two men who were originally charged in 2009 have subsequently plead no contest to the crime and used already served time to get off with just a month or so of jail time and a few years of probation.

As poker becomes more popular around the world, criminals have tried to take advantage of the system. Over the past few months several players have been caught trying to cheat during major tournaments but in every case they were immediately removed from the competition and banned from casinos. As cheating becomes more prevalent it is likely that casinos will resort to more extreme measures to deter cheaters from trying to weasel money out of respectable players. Gulfstream Park Casino's actions could be the start of a massive crack down in the industry. Players at the casino will certainly think twice before they think about trying to pull a fast one.
