Thirteen of the famous Chilean miners who drew worldwide attention for their perseverance while being trapped in a collapsed copper and gold mine for more than two months made an appearance at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in South Florida on Thursday. The group was treated like royalty and was met by a large crowd and many members of the media. They spoke about their experience in the mine, autographed jerseys, spoke enthusiastically about a movie and book about them being in the works, and gave a patriotic shout out to their home land hollering in unison, "Chi! Chi! Chi! Le! Le! Le! Mineros de Chile!"
Those who missed the appearance will still have a chance to see the inspiring miners in person. The group will be back at the casino later today to take part in a special "Tribute to Heroes and Miracles," fundraiser which will benefit the United Mine Workers of America Miners Aid Fund, the American Cancer Society, and Disabled American Veterans.
Other guests who will be honored during the event include Mike Jones and Giner Littleton who have been called the hero and heroine of the Panama City School Board Shooting, miraculous cancer survivor Ana Gospodinoff, and All My Children actor & war veteran J.R. Martinez.
Doors open Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $100 per person, and are available at the casino cashier's cage or online at brownpapertickets.com.
The event is expected to attract a large number of people so if you plan to attend make sure that you get there early.
As always, stay tuned to Casinofan for more industry news and updates.
