HBO, the US cable TV network is about to launch a brand new show entitled Luck and to celebrate they are hosting a special competition on Facebook where participants can with $50,000 in cash.

The series premiere of Luck is set for January 29, 2012 and features a Dustin Hoffman as Chester ‘Ace' Bernstein. His character is a sixty something year old who was just released from prison after doing 4 years for a gambling related crime.

He is picked up from the prison by a friend named Gus (Dennis Farina) who tells Bernstein that he is now registered as a licensed horse owner as a front for his boss.  At the same time a group of gamblers fall upon a ploy in which some exercise jockeys are riding a certain horse slowly in its opening trials. They place an $800 bet and due to a culmination of events win two millions dollars!

The Facebook competition is called the Luck $50,000 Challenge and allows users to place a pick six wager on six races which will occur at the Santa Anita Park in Los Angeles and Gulfstream Park in Miami on January 28.

"This innovative horseracing application offers Facebook users a chance to win $50,000 by submitting their picks for the winning horses in a series of six real thoroughbred horse races," read a statement from HBO.

"The Luck $50,000 Challenge on Facebook was designed for everyone, from first-time betters to hard core handicappers, and is easy to enter. Select one horse per race in each race of the HBO Luck Pick Six. Horses who place in the top three spots, win, place and show, will earn points based on their odds and actual payouts at the track. The bigger the underdog, the more points you will earn if the horse finishes in the top three.

"The HBO Luck Pick Six races will be broadcast live on the HBO Luck Facebook page on January 28 from 4pm. Be sure to tune-in to the premiere of Luck on January 29 at 9pm only on HBO."
