Cryptologic released a "Notification of Arbitration Proceedings" in a press release on April 16th. Not many details were released but it appears that Wagerlogic Ltd (a subsidiary of Cryptologic that develops its software for the games) is taking on Marvel under the JAMS Comprehensive Rules in New York City.
The press release states, "These proceedings concern Wagerlogic Ltd.'s claims that Marvel has committed material breaches of certain provisions of its agreement with Wagerlogic Ltd. relating to the licensing of Marvel comic book characters to Wagerlogic Ltd." Cryptologic of course chose not to spell out what these "material breaches" were but clarified that it did try to resolve the matter without resorting to arbitration but was left with no alternative.
The notification appears to be more of a legal requirement than a desire to inform their readers on the current situation. Since no specific details were released one can only guess what went wrong in what appeared to be the most enduring partnership in the online casino industry.
From 2005 until the end of 2008 Cryptologic released 17 slot games based on Marvel Comics superheroes including such popular titles as Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Blade, Elektra and X-men. In February of 2009 Cryptologic signed an agreement with Marvel's rival DC for developing slot games based on their heroes but in June 2009 Cryptologic and Marvel announced an extension of their agreement till the end of 2013.
So what went wrong? Only time can tell...well that and Cryptologic.
