Recent legislation which laxed gambling laws at poker rooms across the great state of Florida have been a raging success and now it appears that Florida lawmakers are preparing to expand several different forms of gambling in the sunshine state.
Las Vegas gaming companies have been trying to get the go ahead to bring Vegas-style resorts to South Beach and other tourist destinations for quite some time and they may finally be getting their wish. Florida Governor Rick Scott met with Las Vegas Sands owner Sheldon Adelson after he won the mid-term elections back in November so plans of a new resort are expected to be announced in the coming months.
The big news for online gambling fans however is that Florida may soon offer their residents legalized and regulated online poker. A new plan is being discussed which would allow for pari-mutuel online poker which would basically allow the government to collect a ten percent tax on the rake. The plan would allow three poker sites to be used as central locations for twenty three online gambling halls across the state. Support for the bill seems high at the moment and if everything goes according to plan the bill could take effect as soon as July 1st.
Florida is just one of the latest states to consider regulating online gambling. New Jersey has already passed a bill to legalize online poker and California is currently discussing legalizing online casinos.
