The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board voted to revoke the $50 million gaming license of the proposed Foxwoods Casino project in South Philadelphia. On December 16th, the state voted 6-1 to revoke the license after plans for the project were repeatedly changed and delayed.
Foxwoods was awarded the gaming license in 2006 along with several other gaming companies. While other licensees such as SugarHouse already have their casino up and running, Foxwoods is not even close to finishing construction. Just last month, they revised plans for the casino stating that it would be a 57,463-square-foot structure with 1,500 slots and 70 table games. They tried to assure board members that they were serious about the project by announcing that Caesar's Entertainment (formerly known as Harrah's Entertainment) would help finance and run the casino, but it was too little too late. After four years, the state finally pulled the plug on the project perhaps opening a door for another gaming company to swoop in.

Foxwoods investors now have less than 30 days to appeal the decision to the Commonwealth Court but it's unlikely that it will change anything.
