A Greenville man managed to win $400,000 before making it to the casino. Lucien Bergerson was getting ready to leave for a trip to Harrah's Cherokee Casino when he checked his Cash 5 Lottery Ticket and discovered he had won nearly half a million dollars. While most people would probably be rushing to cash in their ticket Bergerson (who used his sons' birthdays to make the winning combination) decided to wait until he got back to claim his winnings.
"I knew the $400,000 would be waiting for me when we got back," Bergeron told lottery officials. "So we didn't cancel our plans instead we tested our luck."
Turns out Bergerson's luck didn't translate to the card tables so he and his girlfriend rushed back home to claim the prize money. Bergerson confessed that he was in disbelief over winning the Lottery. He called the lottery office twice to confirm the numbers before attempting to turn it in and it only real hit him that he won when the staff at the Garden Spot Food Store in Greenville looked at the ticket and told him he needed to go to Columbia to claim the prize.
Asked what his plans were for the future, Bergeron said he plans to keep working, and use the money to pay off his house and buy a new car.
