altThe Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has told Poker News Daily that HR 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act may be marked up this week. It appears however, that no such hearing is on the schedule of the House Financial Services Committee.

The PPA has helped raise more than $27,000 to fund a series of ads in publications like Roll Call and Politico in support of the markup efforts. Those who wish to donate to the cause can still do so on the PPA's website.

It's been a little more than a month since mandatory industry compliance with the regulations of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) went into effect. Credit card companies, banks, and other financial institutions will now be held accountable for any transactions players make with unlawful gambling establishments.

In a video posted on the official website of the PPA shortly after the mandatory compliance date, PPA Executive Director John Pappas said, "We hear from players all of the time if there are disruptions in deposits or payouts or anything like that and we're not hearing any of those issues. It's an eerie silence and we're wondering what is going to happen, if another shoe is going to fall."

Congressman Barney Frank alluded to a vote on HR 2267 during a hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee back in May. Pappas told Poker News Daily that a vote in committee could happen in the "next couple of weeks," but no official date has been set.

The House Ways and Means Committee first attempted to tackle the issue of online gambling back in December but during the proceedings it was noted that officials from the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve were not in attendance so things were pushed off until such a time that the two entities could take center stage.
