An Iowa bill that would have created intrastate online poker within the state's borders appears to have been pushed to the back burner. According to the Associated Press, Sen. Jeff Danielson said that lawmakers could not agree on the bill and that they will now await a report from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Danielson told the Associated Press, "I just think people need a clearer picture of the evidence and I don't think they're ready in this session to legalize it. So we want to give them the best information possible as we go into next year."
The intrastate online poker bill passed the House with a vote of 9-6 but has faced fierce opposition in the Senate. Though the bill is currently "on life support" there is still a change that it could be passed next year. Danielson hopes that once lawmakers get an accurate idea of how many people are already wagering illegally online within the state's borders they will be more apt to change their tune.
Meanwhile, all eyes are turned to Nevada which looks poised to become the first state in the U.S. to legalize online gambling.
