Kentucky, like many other states, is facing a budget deficit and this may prove to be good news for the gambling industry. Turns out voters are in favor of expanding gambling legislation or at least that is what a recent poll appears to be saying.
Research 2000, a private non-partisan research company, recently conducted a 600 person telephone survey of registered voters in the area and the results were sort of surprising. It turns out that voters over all are in vehement support of Governor Steve Beshear's efforts to bring casino games to racetracks across the state, an option which most consider more acceptable then budget cuts on things like education and health care.
A total of 45% of those polled showed support for adding slot gambling to racetracks across the state with the remaining 55% split on the issue with 30% in favor of health and education cuts and 25% unsure of the issue.
Whether slots will be incorporated into Kentucky's racetracks or not remains to be seen. The state legislative is expected to have a special legislative session this month but it is unlikely that gambling expansion is on the top of their list of issues.
