The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has released its year-end 2010 report highlighting its visitor's demographics and the results have been rather surprising. It turns out that despite the Las Vegas young hip image, its visitors are aging considerably. The study revealed that the average visitor to Las Vegas is 49 years old, married, a college graduate, and making about $40,000 a year.
"We want to know who our visitor is, what's important to them (and) where they're spending that money," said LVCVA spokesman Vince Alberta.
Over the past decade Las Vegas has seen a non-gambling trend develop and it turns out that many of its visitors are visiting the city as a way to get more bang for their buck. Rather than gamble at the casinos, many visitors are taking advantage of the dining, shopping, and free shows that the city offers.
Alberta said that the information the group has gathered on Las Vegas tourism and how they spend their money will be used to attract new visitors because Nevada is very dependent on the travel and tourism industry.
While gambling revenues have decreased over the past few years the study did reveal that more tourists from other countries are visiting the city with most international visitors coming from Canada, followed by the United Kingdom and Mexico.
With this new information in hand, it is likely that Las Vegas will begin offering more nongambling tourist attractions.
