Luxemberg's only casino was targeted by robberies who managed to escape with close to 5 million Euros. Four armed assailants raided the Casino 2000 in Bad Mondorf in what patrons have described as a Hollywood heist. The thieves entered the casino wearing ski masks and forced blackjack players to lie on the floor. One of the bandits cracked the bullet proof class which encased the casino cages and the others systematically looted both the casino tables and its patrons. Once the bandits had finished taking all the chips and money their duffle bags could carry they took two casino employees as hostages quickly exited the casino. The bandits then loaded everything into a BMW 3 Series, released the hostages and sped away into the night.

Casino employees alerted the police and neighboring countries as quickly as possible and set up roadblocks but the assailants got away. French police spotted a car matching the casino's description traveling at a high speed south on Thionvielle Highway but they were unable to catch the vehicle and eventually lost the BMW in pursuit. Police are not exactly certain of how much was stolen but they estimate that the thieves successfully stole 3-5 million Euros. Investigation into the crime is currently ongoing.
