A robber was tripped up this week when he tried to steal $2,000 from a man leaving the Sugar House Casino in Philadelphia. An unnamed male victim reported that he was followed from the casino by three men who attempted to mug him but quick thinking and a pair of baggy pants saved the day.
The New Jersey man told authorities that the robbers may have targeted him when they overheard him calling his girlfriend from the bathroom of the casino to brag about his winnings. When he later left the casino early in the morning the victim said that he chit chatted with the perpetrators while waiting for his cab and that they offered to give him a ride home but he declined.
After being dropped off by a cab the victim was attacked from behind and struck in the head with a handgun while walking up his driveway. One of the muggers screamed, "give it up!" but before the assailants were able to inflict further damage the victim grabbed one of the men and pulled him to ground and started screaming for help.
One of the other attackers moved towards him but then fell to the ground when he "tripped over his baggy pants." Worried that they would get caught the attackers then fled the scene taking off in a gold Chevrolet Impala driven by a third assailant. As of now, there have been no arrests connected to the crime but casino surveillance footage was able to snag a pretty clear image of two of the muggers though it's unclear which of the two men got caught with their pants down.
The victim came out of the incident with a nasty gash on his head that required eight staples, but he survived the attack with his two grand intact. The Sugar House Casino told reporters that they have security on hand to escort winners to their car but that the attack should teach players a valuable lesson. "Bragging about your winnings, it might make you feel good for that evening, but there are preyers in the casino," the casino's vice president warned.
The biggest lesson to come out of the story though is to invest in a good fitting belt if you want to be able to walk around without tripping on your own pants. These robbers could learn a valuable lesson from last season's American Idol star, Larry Platt and his famous song, "Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!"
