PlayNow.com continues to suffer from technical difficulties. The site which is the first ever government run online gambling site was originally launched earlier this month only to be taken down days later because of overwhelming demand on the servers. A new and improved version of the site was then released but it was shut down again just hours later after a malfunction in the security software was discovered.
Despite everything though, the B.C. government continues to stand by the site. Premiere Gordon Campbell told reporters that he still has confidence in the site and the people who are operating it and that he understands that patience is just is part of the process.
"I think we always have to be vigilant," said Campbell, when speaking to reporters late last week. "We have to learn from all the mistakes that are made and when mistakes are made, I think that's exactly what they've tried to do."
Of course other online gambling sites have not been so understanding. Many have stepped up to say that B.C. Lottery Corp. has been careless with their software. They claim that the breach of private trust is something the site will be hard pressed to get back any time soon. Many players however still look forward to the next re-launch of the site.
"I have been waiting a long time to be able to play slots online at a place where the government ensures my safety," said Margaret Lindsey. "If I have to wait a couple of more weeks, that's fine. I have full confidence that this will be worked out and will not happen in the future."
With the U.S. looking into the possibility of Internet gambling regulation many Americans are looking for the B.C. online gambling site to get their act together. If PlayNow.com were to become successful it could allow other provinces to move quickly into the market and provide a good example to US legislators of the sort of business they are missing out on. For now though, players will just have to hope they simply get the site up and going.
