According to a recent peer review study commission by The Economist, Australians are the biggest gamblers in the world. The study found that on average Australians over the age of 16 years placed a whopping $1208.75 in bets in 2010 on a wide variety of games including blackjack, sports betting, poker, slots, and the highly controversial pokies. Despite leading the world in gambling, Australia does not lead the world in violent crimes, drug abuse, spousal abuse, job losses due to gambling, or any of the major crimes anti-gambling advocates like to associate gambling with.
