 Giovanni Safina, a 45 year-old civil lawyer from Italy, took part in the Premier League IV Main Event as the sole online qualifier. He not only competed admirably but impressed everyone by finishing in third and cashing for $158,000. Not bad considering his original investment was only €100. Recently PartyPoker announced that they will be adding Safina to Team PartyPoker.
Safina said, "I started playing poker through curiosity. The Premier League was the opportunity of a lifetime and a dream come true. I am truly delighted that my performances there led to the offer to join Team PartyPoker. I think I have shown that in poker everything is possible, but is necessary to have lots of patience and discipline. It's also crazy to think that my fellow Italian teammates are Giancarlo Fisichella and Francesco Totti!"
Safina showed great character when thrown into the battle with 11 of the world's biggest sharks and despite all the mind games gained some real respect from ever player involved.
He joins a roster of players that include some of the biggest names in the game including Mike Sexton, Tony G, Tyron Krost, Bodo Sbrzesny, Kara Scott, Ian Frazer and Dragan Galic.
Kara Scott welcomed the new player with open arms saying, "I know that every single online qualifier in Vegas was desperate to join Team PartyPoker but Giovanni had to get the deal after his fantastic performances. It gives me great pleasure to welcome him onboard - he really deserves it."
Safina has only been playing poker for three years. By joining Team PartyPoker, Giovanni will now represent PartyPoker.it at tournaments all around the world.
