One lucky blackjack winner took the Tropicana Casino for nearly $6 million. The casino reports that one of its players hit a major hot streak and won an estimated $5.8 million at the tables. The win pushed the casino down to the bottom of the profits list for Atlantic City casinos, which was particularly brutal considering that the entire Atlantic City gaming industry was down 7% from last month.
The irony of the win is the fact that Tropicana has been using high stakes table games to reel in players. The strategy had been paying off for the six months prior but ultimately it was this very strategy that lead to $5.8 million being won from a single patron.
"We ran very unlucky," said Tropicana's CEO, Mark Giannantonio regarding the matter. Gianantonio chose not to share the name of the winner but he did say that they were the single biggest winner in the casino's history and that if it were not for them, the casino would've actually had a pretty good month.
Giannantonio will not be a CEO with Tropicana for much longer. It was recently announced that he will be replaced by veteran gambling executive Tony Rodio. The change in management is not said to be connected with the Blackjack winner in any way.
