The Hungarian government is in the process of drafting a bill that could open up the online gambling market to international gambling operators. The government is in the process of speaking to reputed online gambling operators interested in entering the Hungarian market and the bill is expected to be officially introduced shortly.
In preparation for the more competitive atmosphere the bill will create in Hungary. Hungary's monopoly gambling operator is in search of a complete online gambling platform that will provide resident with online casino gambling, poker, and sports betting in one place. The company will be taking bids from major operators from now until May 16th and will announce the winning bid on June 6th. Many international software providers are expected to place a bid since partnering with the present monopoly operator will provide easy in roads into the online gambling market.
Meanwhile, Greece still does not appear to be making any progress with its online gambling legislation. Disagreements between politicians and the European Commission's decision not to offer an early review of the nations online gambling regulations makes it unlikely that the country will have a regulated regime in place this year.
