John Penrose, the minister responsible for gambling in the UK has recently announced there will be an overhaul of the British remote gambling laws which will require current "white list licensees" that want continue to access the iGaming market within the UK to apply for a new UK license.
"All overseas operators will be subject to the same standards and requirements as those based in Britain, as well as being required to inform the Gambling Commission about suspicious betting patterns to help fight illegal activity and corruption in betting," stated Penrose in the reforms announcement.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport, a department in the UK government which is responsible in part for internet media, has accepted the changes with open arms insuring that the new laws would allow for "better protection for British consumers using overseas operators" by bringing the regulation within UK borders instead.
These reforms are expected to completely remove the existing policies which allow operators to be licensed within the European Economic Area and other jurisdictions that have been "white listed" by the DCMS to operate within the UK.
It isn't the first time this new policy has been implemented. The UK follows France and Italy where operators are forced to acquire a license there regardless of what license they may hold elsewhere.
