Online Gambling Regulation in the US Gets a Second Wind

Looks as though legislation to legalize and regulate online gambling in the US is making progress. While most of us assumed that the shift in Congressional power towards Republicans would put an end to such legislation getting of the ground it now appears that Rep. John Cambell (R-CA) is in the process of introducing a House bill which is very similar Barney Franks's long discussed bill.

There is no timeline for Campell's bill but he is expected to speak at the upcoming Global iGaming Summit and Expo along with several other members of Congress who strongly support online gambling.

It is unclear what has stirred a change in Republican attitudes towards online gambling but the increasing number of state based pushes for regulated online gambling is the likely culprit. A dozen or so states have bills in the works and New Jersey is just one signature away from being the first state to explicitly regulate online poker in the US. Cambell's home state of California is seriously considering regulating internet gambling and as everyone knows the momentum of state regulatory efforts greatly increases the chance that Congress acting favorably on an issue.
