 Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center has finally been taken out by US forces. US President Barack Obama confirmed the news on Sunday night saying that DNA samples were taken from the body to verify that it was in fact the body of one of the world's biggest terrorists. After everything was confirmed the body was taken out to sea and quickly buried in accordance to Islamic practice. While many have been suspicious over the quick disposal of the body, Islamic tradition requires people to be buried with 24 hours of their passing and it's likely that US forces felt that his grave could have easily turned into a shrine for Al Qaeda members had he been allowed to be buried on land.
Bookmakers have been taking bets on Osama Bin Laden's capture or death for years. While the vast majority of people bet that it would take less than 9 years for Bin Laden to be captured an estimated 6% of bettors on Intrade.com believed that this would be his final year. Those of you who placed that bet will have plenty of reasons to celebrate since the payout will be huge.
The events will likely affect the odds of several other political prop bets. Obama's odds to win the US Presidential election is expected to sky rocket following the news and the odds of those who expressed doubt Obama's war on terror will probably suffer in the Republican Nominee race.
