Otto Guevara, leader of the Partido Movimiento Libertario (ML) and 2010 Costa Rican presidential candidate has now admitted to receiving political donations from Olman Rimola though he still denies having had any knowledge that the funds came from illegal gambling sources. Guevara said that he knew Rimola and was aware that he operated a call centre but that he did not know that the call center did business with online poker gambling sites. While most voters were willing to accept the politicians at his word, the Ministerio Publico was not so kind. They are in the process of seeking to lift banking secrecy against Guevara and the Movimiento Libertario's to see just how much money exchanged hands.
"This is a political stunt", Guevara told the press on Thursday. He said that he has no problem in opening up his bank accounts and that he has nothing to hide. Guevara went on to say that during his presidential race he received several loans from Carla Gomez a financier in Cost Rica and that she will have to answer to questions of where the funds came from since all donations were managed by former ML campaign manager, Cristian Arguedas. Gomez's home was raided earlier this week.
