Paul the Octopus Gets Replaced with Paul II

altThe world may still be in mourning for the loss of Paul the Octopus, the sea soothsayer who accurately predicted all of this year's World Cup winners, but that hasn't stopped the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany from announcing his successor.

Paul the Octopus died last week of natural causes at the ripe old octopus age of three years old. Over the course of his short life, Paul became an international celebrity, making headlines during this summer's World Cup games by correctly choosing the winners of every match up he was asked including the Cup's ultimate winner.

Before each match, the aquarium set up to boxes with the competing team's flags placed on the front. Equally sized mussels were placed in each box and Paul was given the option of choosing which fish he would like to eat first. Paul accurately selected the winner's "box" each time during this past summer's World Cup which caused quite a headache for sportsbooks.

The aquarium wasted no time in unveiling Paul's replacement, new "Paul" (or "Paul Jr." as we like to call him) made his television debut on Wednesday at the tender age of 5-months old. It is unclear whether or not Paul Jr. will be able to make picks on soccer games like his aquarium's former occupant but many have high hopes that Paul was not unique in his ability.
