altThe art world was shocked when Russia's Federal Security Service announced that they had found artworks by Pablo Picasso and Rembrandt during a raid on an illegal gambling operation in Moscow. The paintings which are worth more than $5 million were found along with documents belonging to former Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky. So far no information on the condition of the paintings have been released and it's still unclear whether they will be handed over to a museum, auctioned off, or locked away in police vaults indefinitely.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin have been cracking down on crime syndicates and illegal gambling operations across Moscow and Russia. Putin has also called for many casinos to be closed down to reduce addiction and clamp down on organized crime. It is estimated that Russia has as many as 3 million gambling addicts, who make up 2.1% of the population. It is unclear whether Russians are genetically inclined towards gambling addiction or whether the survey was preformed incorrectly.
