Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin has signed orders to abolish the Rostov part of the Azov-City gambling zone. The Russian government's website published the instruction on Monday and gambling will no longer be permitted within the regions borders. The news comes months after President Dmitry Medvedev signed amendments that excluded the Rostov region from the list of regions in which gaming zones are allowed to be located, so the news should come as no surprise to industry insiders.
The Russian government has been waging a fierce campaign against gambling over the last few years cracking down on illegal gambling and bringing charges against many public officials who have been suspected of being turning a blind eye to the gambling rings. It is unclear what the Russian government's next move will be but there is no doubt these are dark times for Russian gamblers.
There are now just three places left where gambling is permitted and all of the regions require quite a bit of travel for the average Russian player. Those who can't find the time to travel will just have to do without their favorite games or risk being caught gambling outside of the region and face some serious consequences.
