Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is under attack from a Singapore animal welfare group. On Friday, the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) launched a campaign urging the casino resort to free 25 dolphins destined for the resort's new marine park attraction. RWS plans to run an "interactive dolphin spa programme" where visitors can interact with the animals. They bought 27 Indo-pacific bottlenose dolphins from the Solomon Islands in 2008 and so far two of the animals have died during training in the Philippines. The group does not accuse the casino of abusing the dolphins in any way but they fervently believe that a life of captivity is not right for such majestic animals.
"We hope that RWS will make a socially responsible decision and free the dolphins," said Louis Ng, executive director of ACRES. He announced the release of launch of the group's new website www.saddestdolphins.com which is designed to raise public awareness of the through songs and videos.
RWS, which runs Singapore's first casino as well as its Universal Studios theme park, had no immediate reaction to the campaign. They said that they would be studying the campaign's allegations in detail before they comment on the matter.
