The Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, IL is doing their part to help the environment. The casino is looking to become the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified casino in the U.S. The casino has already implemented several energy-efficient and sustainable initiatives including free valet parking for alternative fuel cars, water efficient toilets, an in-house recycling program for patrons, green walls, high energy-efficient HVAC units, and LED lights on every floor in the parking garage. Casino officials say that they believe the new facility will reach the program's silver certification level, but their ultimate goal is to hit the gold status.
Casino officials stated that they would probably receive their LEED rating after the July opening. Acting City Manager Jason Slowinski commented say, "If we get LEED gold, I think we'll be very, very happy. We're pretty confident we'll get silver. Gold will be a little bit of a stretch."
Based on the rating they receive and the feedback they get from locals, the casino will likely make changes to improve their overall rating. No matter what the results, the casino's efforts will likely have an effect on how casinos are constructed in U.S. in the years to come.
As always, stay tuned to Casinofan for more news and updates.
