The upcoming Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton has sparked international attention. People from around the world have been engrossed in how the wedding will turn out and sports betting websites have definitely taken notice. Bookmakers like William Hill are now taking bets on everything from who will design the wedding dress to where the royal couple will take their honey moon, but it hasn't been without controversy. Some punters seem to have inside information and it's hard to weed out the honest bets from those who know what's happening on the inside.
On January 10th for example someone registered for the site and attempted to place a bet for $8,000 on the option of the couple taking their honeymoon in Kenya. William Hill of course flagged the user's account and removed the bet because of its suspiciously high nature but there is no telling for sure if the bet was made by an insider or not.
Despite some anxiety over whether information is being leaked however, online bookmakers continue to see a flurry of activity as the Royal Wedding draws closer. Ladbrokes has already taken more than $70,000 in wagers on the month and location of the wedding alone and William Hill has seen $45,000 wagered since the news of Prince William's engagement first broke.
Just a few of the prop bets concerning the details of the Wedding still open include the colour of Kate's dress, the Queen's hat and their selection for their first dance.
