Stiffer UK Online Gaming Licensing Laws Expected to Pass as Early as March

It looks like offshore online gambling companies who want to advertise in Britain will soon be required to obtain a license from the UK government and pay associated fees and levies. This seems only fair since British based licensed gaming operators have been forced to comply with the same standards for years, but things are never as simple as they appear to be at first glance.

altYou see, it appears that many UK operators moved out of Britain because they felt that the high taxes and licensing fees it takes to run a company out of Britain hampered their ability to provide competitive services to their customers. Rather than lose a boatload of money to offshore gambling sites these companies decided to go offshore themselves and now it appears that the objective of the proposed law is to bring these operators back to Britain and force them to pay the taxes they worked so hard to avoid.

The move is just one of many that the current Conservative-LibDem coalition government is making to reel in the reigns of online gambling. It has been reported that Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt is also considering a ban on the use of credit cards for online gambling which could affect a huge number of players across the island nation. Changes in online gambling laws are expected to pass as early as March 2011.
