A recent Gambling Commission report found that Scots are the biggest gamblers in the UK. The latest British Gambling Prevalence Survey found that 75% of Scots have gambled in the past 12 months and that across a wide range of betting activities, more people in Scotland are betting than in any other region of the country.
This was the first time that the survey included a breakdown of Scottish figures so it's unclear whether or not the number of Scots gambling is on the rise. The survey did however find that the percentage of people who have gambled in the UK, over the past year is up 5% since 2007.
The results of the survey could provide casino advertisers with incentives to start advertising more heavily in the area. While Britain is usually thought to be the gambling capital of the UK it turns out that Scotland could be fertile ground for those looking to further expand into the European market.
The UK was one of the first countries in Europe to legalize and regulate online gambling and even as gambling markets begin to open up across the continent it remains a crucial part of the industry.
