An unemployed father of two won a $1 million progressive jackpot at the Santa Ysabel Casino on Wednesday. The 42-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, was playing the progressive penny "Gold Series" slot machine when five "Gold Series" images suddenly flashed up indicating that he had won $1,036,253. Rather than call his wife up and tell her the news, the man told the casino then waited until he got home to tell her. She only believed him after he showed her the confirmation letter.
"It's a life-changing event that you would never expect," he said. Asked what their plans are for the money, the couple said that they plan to use the money to pay off their house, buy a new car, set up a college fund for their sons, and take a road trip across the country.
The jackpot was Santa Ysabel Casino's biggest payout since opening in 2007. The second highest jackpot ever won at the casino was a $178,014 jackpot which was struck on a Wheel of Fortune machine back in December of 2008. The man who won the jackpot is a Santa Ysabel regular. He told reporters that he visits the casino a few times a month and enjoys the casino's atmosphere and friendly staff.
