VirginGames.com has released the results of a new survey which shows that 44% of the 647 players surveyed have made 'genuine friends' playing at the casino's online bingo rooms and that 18% actually took that friendship to a level by meeting their friends in person. A total of 22% said that they have shared 'personal problems and family issues' with people they met playing at the casino and surprisingly enough four respondents even said that they found their romantic partner playing at VirginGames.com.
"When we put out this survey we really had no idea what to expect," said Alan Thomas from VirginGames.com.
"We are genuinely thrilled that our customers get more than a bit of fun out of playing online bingo at VirginGames.com. It seems a number of them have truly enriched their social lives through new friendships and in one case a wedding.
"There is a lot of focus on the negative impacts of online gaming but I think this demonstrates for a lot of people it provides a point of common interest and can bring something to people's lives."
The biggest news to come out of the survey however is the fact that more than half of the respondents stated that hey have replaced all of their former bingo hall visits with playing online.
"69 percent said they now use online bingo over a bingo hall is interesting to see," continued Mr. Thomas. "People love the ease and availability of playing online. Going to bingo halls is associated with having a few drinks and perhaps smoking. Then there's the added cost of transport to get you there. With the ever-rising cost of alcohol and transport coupled with the smoking ban, people are choosing the more affordable option of playing bingo at home and providing their own refreshments."
Of course the study isn't scientific and the fact that VirginGames.com surveyed their own players makes the results a little bias but the results are still very good news for the online gaming industry.
