 While many states in the U.S, have been trying to pass legislation to legalize and regulate online gambling, Virginia appears to be moving in the opposite direction. Clifford L. Athey Jr. a Republican delegate to the Virginia House of Representatives has proposed making the lottery, internet cafes and all other forms of internet betting a criminal activity.
The bill which will stiffen laws that are already in place in the state has already passed the first hurdle in the General Assembly. Along with it are two companion bills which outlaw online casino gambling in Virginia, while preserving the ability of restaurants to offer Internet and non-gambling related games. The bill is expected to pass without problems, which is terrible news for Virginia online gamers.
The U.S. is such a diverse country that it seems that states will never be able to agree on whether or not online gambling should be legalized. It is entirely possible that federal laws legalizing the practice could pass and citizens in certain states would still be banned from online gambling.
