William Hill will be officially moving into the U.S. Gambling market. A subsidiary of the company has purchased American Wagering Inc (AWI) and the Cal Neva sports book division for a combined total of $39 million. Both companies operate sportsbooks throughout Nevada and could provide the perfect footing for William Hill to wiggle their way into the state's $2.7 billion sports betting industry. \Before William Hill completes the acquisitions they will still need to acquire a license from the Nevada Gaming Board but they are expected to be approved and the deal officially completed in 2012.
"These acquisitions mark William Hill's entry into the strategically important US market, taking a leading position in sports-betting," stated William Hill's Chief Executive Ralph Topping. "We see significant opportunities for growth by investing in Nevada and arising from the combination of these businesses...
We are excited about the expansion of our company into the US gaming market and, in particular, into Nevada, which sets the gold standard. This is a great development opportunity for William Hill, one of the world's oldest and most trusted sports-betting operators and we look forward to serving the American casino market and reaching out to new customers."
More details about the acquisitions are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
