The casino software providers that feature Marvels amazing comic book characters are very worried about their future. Cryptologic and Playtech are among those affected as Disney acquired Marvel earlier this week. For the time being, the software company's rights to the characters cannot be taken away.
Licenses with Marvel will not expire until around 2011 insuring that the many casino games will remain for now. Whether or not they will be able to renew the license is what worries them.
Disney is a family oriented company with ties to religious groups that may not agree with the company being involved in gambling deals. Disney has been known for keeping a reputation for being family friendly and is very protective over this image.
It is not yet known what will happen but we can probably guess what Disney will do if the fact that they are tied to gambling ventures becomes an issue. Hopefully, the slots can continue to feature the likes of Spiderman, X-Men, The Hulk and The Fantastic Four for many years to come.
Will Disney allow the continuation of licenses once it comes time to renew? Or will they frown on the idea of associating their well respected family image with gambling? We will have to wait and see but the odds aren't in our favor on this one.
