Progressive Jackpots

Progressive jackpots have long been a form of excitement for players new and old alike. The gambling version works very similarly to those found in children’s arcade games, with the popular game Cyclone being used as an example of the general principles for the purposes of this article. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, Cyclone (which is considered the most successful and highest earning redemption game ever made) is a three player hand/eye coordination game that consists basically of stopping a passing light between two glowing bars to win the grand prize or jackpot with smaller prizes awarded to those who come within an inch or two of meeting their goal.

The game starts out like all progressive games with a base prize which at first does not appear to be overly generous, but still maintains a higher prize value than that of some of the other game options out there. A few players come around, see the flashing lights and give it a shot. As the game goes on, they find out that it is not nearly as easy it looks; every time they fail something amazing happens- the big prize in the middle goes up. So while they may have started playing for a smaller jackpot, after awhile they are looking at a considerably larger prize. Because of that, players continue playing the game, in hopes of winning the grand prize. Other players seeing the excitement are drawn in by the seemingly outrageous sum up for grabs. So although some of the original players may lose interest and move on to other games, they are quickly replaced by new players who wish to reap the rewards that were left behind.  The more everyone plays, the more alluring the game becomes until eventually someone walks away with the incredibly large jackpot. At that point, the jackpot in the middle resets and the cycle starts all over again.

The progressive jackpots used in virtual casinos, online poker and slot machines work in much the same way. Every time someone plays, a portion of the profit is put towards the jackpot. Smaller prizes typically play a key role as they are rewarded to players to encourage them to stick around for awhile. The operators do this because they know that by giving up a small portion of the profit, they will actually make more in the long run by attracting new players along the way. The more simple or straight forward the game is, the quicker the jackpot can accumulate. The larger the jackpot, the more exciting game is. It is a rather elementary format that can lead to some real profits. This leads to lots of fun for those playing for the big reward that will come at the end of the game.
