Types of Slot Machines

Slot machines nowadays are more than simply putting a coin in and hoping for the best. Here, read about the different types and find a slot machine that’s right for you.

Reel Slot Machines – Reel Slot Machines have 3-5 wheels, called reels, which are adorned with various symbols. Once spun, the reels move and the symbols, hopefully, match up. Some commonly used symbols include cherries, 7’s and Bar icons. These slot machines are only found in casinos.

Video Slot Machines – Rather than actually having reels, video slot machines have animations that illustrate reels moving. These are completely computer simulated and produce more possible combinations. Video Slot Machines are found both online and in casinos.

3 Reel – The classic 3 Reel slot machine is probably the easiest and most common to play. In order to play as long as possible, it’s typically advised to bet low enough to make your money last, but high enough to earn some sort of profit.

5 Reel – 5 Reel Slot Machines are becoming more popular than the classic 3 reel kind. Commonly found in casinos, these slot machines have many different ways to win. Although they are typically more expensive to play, they’re also more profitable.

Single Pay-Line Slot Machine – The Single Pay-Line Slot Machine is the original and classic design. Spin the reels and if the icons match up in the middle of the screen, you win. There are many different payouts depending on which icons match up, however there is only one way to win.

Multiple Pay-Line Slot Machines – Rather than having simply 1 line to win by, these machines have multiple lines, most commonly 3: 1 in the middle of the screen, 1 on the top, and 1 on the bottom. Each line gives the player another chance to win. If icons match up on any of the lines, you win. The downside of these is that you have to pay more. One coin will only activate the middle line. The more coins you put in, the more lines you can use. For example, if you only put in 2 coins and make a match on the 3rd line, you won’t win; you need to play that 3rd coin. The amount of lines depends on the type of slot machine. For 3 Reel machines, they will typically have 1 or 3 lines. For 5 Reel machines, they’ll have anywhere between 3 and 30. To ensure that you’ll receive a prize for any line hit, it’s best to put in the maximum amount of coins.

Progressive Jackpot Slot Machines – Every time a coin is played on a progressive slot machine, the jackpot increases. When the jackpot is finally hit, the prize goes back to the starting amount and begins the process of rising once again.  These machines are incredibly popular due to the fact that the chance to win an extremely high profit is possible. In addition to the jackpot, these slots also have the standard set of payoffs as the other slot machines. It is not uncommon to have multiple winners in 1 weekend with these machines. The down side of them is that you can only really win big with maximum bets.

Multiplier Slots – These slot machines reward winners with a multiple of how much they wagered. For instance, if you play one coin and win $10, you’ll simply receive $10. However, if you play 2 coins and win $10, you’ll receive $20 (2 times the winning profit). These are more profitable, yet more costly if you wish to win more.

Bonus Multiplier Slots – Played similarly as the Multiplier Slots, the Bonus slots add extra money if a winning combination is hit while using the maximum amount of coins. For example, after spinning a winning combination of $10, with 1 coin you’ll win $10 and with 2 you’ll win $20. However, with 3, the maximum, you’ll earn $50. The bonus differs for most winnings.
