Recently on the hit British reality show, The X Factor’s judge Simon Cowell came in for some heavy criticism for what viewers saw as a suspicious ploy to fix the results. Now singer-songwriter and former Police frontman Sting has joined the X Factor debate calling the show “preposterous” and “appalling”.

In an interview with London’s Evening Standard, the five-time Grammy Award winner shot down the music talent contest which regularly pulls peak audiences of more than 15 million in the UK.

“The X Factor is a preposterous show and you have judges who have no recognizable talent apart from self-promotion, advising them what to wear and how to look. It is appalling.”

He added: "I am sorry but none of those kids are going to go anywhere, and I say that sadly. They are humiliated when they get sent off. How appalling for a young person to feel that rejection. It is a soap opera which has nothing to do with music. In fact, it has put music back decades.”

Despite Sting’s opinion, the X Factor is still one of the most wagered on television programs. Popular online bookmaker, Bwin.com, has continued to offer odds on the famed television show:
